2024年のフジロック最終日。フィールド・オブ・ヘブンのヘッドライナーとしてステージに上がったのがTHE ALLMAN BETTS BANDだった。アメリカのサザンロックを代表する存在であるThe Allman Brothers Bandの中心的な存在だったグレッグ・オールマンとディッキー・ベッツの子どもであるデヴォン・オールマンとデュアン・ベッツが組んだバンド。それぞれのオリジナルに加え、The Allman Brothers Bandのナンバーもセットリストに加えられる。2026年3月、このバンドの2度目の来日が決定した。
Q1：The Allman Betts Family Revival took place in 2017. What inspired you to create this show?
2017年に「The Allman Betts Family Revival」が行われました。このライブイベントを開催することになったきっかけを教えてください。
The first “Revival” was something Devon put together following the passing of his father, Gregg Allman as a celebration. He had taken some time off and wanted to invite some close friends to celebrate the life and music of his father. I was one of the friends invited and this was the start of mine and Devon’s work together.
最初の「リバイバル」は、デヴォンが父グレッグ・オールマンの死を悼むために企画したものです。彼はしばらく休暇をとり、親しい友人たちを招いて父の人生と音楽を称えたいと考えていました。私も招待された友人のひとりで、これが私とデヴォンの共同制作の始まりでした。
Q2：Did this show lead to the later formation of The Allman Betts Band?
このショーが、のちにThe Allman Betts Bandの結成につながっていったのですか。
Yes, eventually it did.
First I opened shows for Devon’s band in 2018. We played a lot of shows around the world. I would open and then, later, join his band for 5 or 6 songs. This led to the formation of Allman Betts Band and we recorded our first record Down to the River, which came out in 2019.
そう、最終的にはそうなっていきました。
まず2018年にデヴォンのバンドのオープニングアクトを務めました。世界のいろんな街で多くの公演をしました。オープニングアクトを務めた後、彼のバンドに5〜6曲参加することになりました。これがオールマン・ベッツ・バンドの結成につながり、2019年に最初のアルバム「Down to the River」をレコーディングしたんです。

I believe the first Allman Betts show was in New York City, Brooklyn Bowl.

Q4：What was your impression of the first show with The Allman Betts Band?
The Allman Betts Bandのファーストショーで、どんな手応えを感じましたか。
There was a lot of buzz around the band and the new record. I was well aware we had a formidable band and I felt like it was the start of something special.
私たちのバンドと新作アルバムは大きな話題を集めていました。素晴らしいバンドになることは自分たちでも確信していたし、何か特別なことの始まりだと感じていました。
Q5：The Allman Brothers Band is still popular in Japan. What influence did your father or his generation have on you?
オールマンブラザースバンドは、今も日本で人気を誇っています。父親、あるいは父親世代の音楽からの影響を教えてください。
There are so many aspects of my dad’s personality and values that I am influenced by. He always taught me the importance of nature in both life and music. He would tell me to go play guitar outdoors seeing, hearing, smelling, feeling nature.

Q6：What do you value most about The Allman Betts Band's shows?
The Allman Betts Bandのショーでもっとも大切にしていることはなんですか。
I think Devon and I both have such a strong love for music and an appreciation for what our fathers were able to do in their lives. We love so many bands of all generations but we both are so proud of our fathers.
デヴォンと私は音楽への強い愛と、父親たちが人生で成し遂げた偉業への感謝の気持ちを抱いています。私たちはあらゆる世代の多くのバンドを愛していますが、ふたりとも父親のことを今もとても誇りに思っています。
Q7：How do you decide on the set list?
セットリストはどのように決めているのですか。
Devon usually writes a set list and sends it over to me and our keyboard player John Ginty for feedback. If I see something that concerns me I’ll voice my idea. That’s pretty much how it works. Devon is really good at putting a show together. We do try to mix up the set-lists as much as possible.
デヴォンがセットリストを書いて、私とキーボード奏者のジョン・ギンティからフィードバックをもらうことが多いんです。気になる点があれば、すぐに意見を言います。だいたいこんな感じで決まっていきます。デヴォンはショーをまとめるのが本当に上手なんです。セットリストは可能な限りいろいろな組み合わせにするようにしています。
Q8：After two cancellations of Japan tours due to COVID-19, you finally performed your first live show in Japan at Fuji Rock in 2024. What are your memories of Fuji Rock and Japan?
コロナによる2度の日本公演キャンセルがあって、ついに2024年のフジロックで日本初ライブを行いました。フジロックや日本の思い出を教えてください。
Fuji Rock was an incredible experience. It’s such an honor to be invited and play for the good people of Japan. I first came to Japan in 1985 when I was 7 years old and have loved it ever since. I played there first in 2014 with my dad.
フジロックは素晴らしい経験でした。日本に呼んでもらって、演奏させていただけて本当に光栄です。初めて日本に来たのは1985年、7歳の時で、それ以来ずっと日本が大好きです。初めて日本でプレイしたのは2014年、父と一緒に演奏した時でした。
Q9：What is your impression of Japanese fans?
日本のファンの印象を教えてください。
My impression is that they love to listen to music. They show appreciation in their own way. They respect the musicians. The audience can be a bit more reserved but it’s actually such a cool thing to experience different audiences around the world.
音楽を聴くのが大好きだという印象を受けました。自分なりの方法で音楽への感謝の気持ちを表し、ミュージシャンを尊敬しているように感じていました。観客は少し控えめなところもありますが。世界中のいろんな場所で、様々な観客を体験できるのは、実に素晴らしいことです。
Q10：Are there plans for a new album?
ニューアルバムの予定はありますか。
At this point there are not. We love playing together but we also love doing our solo work and that’s what my focus is at the moment. I have a new record coming out in 2026.
今のところはないんです。一緒に演奏するのも大好きですが、ソロ活動も大好きで、今はそれに集中しています。2026年には新しいアルバムをリリースする予定です。
Q11：Your first Japan tour will be held in March. Please give a message to your Japanese fans.
3月に初の日本ツアーが行われます。日本のファンにメッセージをお願いします。
We are very much looking forward to playing for you. We love your country and can’t wait to have a great time with you. We know you have a deep respect for this music and we can’t wait to share this time together.

デュアン・ベッツ＆パルメット・モーテルを率い、オールマン・ベッツ・バンドの創設メンバーのひとり。父ディッキー・ベッツが率いるディッキー・ベッツ＆グレート・サザンでもギタリスト兼シンガーとして活躍した。過去にはバックボーン69、ホワイトスター、ブレザレン・オブ・ザ・コースト、ドーズ、ジャムタウン[4]、デュアン・ベッツ＆ザ・ピストリアーズなど、複数のグループに所属。ベッツはセッション・ミュージシャンとしても活動しており、パドル・オブ・マッドのアルバムにも参加している。
